slow skincare done Right
what is tallow?
-
Tallow is animal fat that has been purified through a process called rendering. The fat is heated to a low temperature and slowly clarified, removing proteins, water, and other impurities. The rendering process results in a versatile fat that is shelf stable and used for cooking, skincare, and soap making. In our case, we use tallow from pasture raised bison and beef.
-
Tallow is full of triglycerides and contains more Omega-3 fatty acids than Omega-6 fatty acids, making it one of the best fats for a healthy lifestyle. These Omega-3 fatty acids are capable of nourishing and strengthening the skin barrier, due to its high biocompatibility. Tallow also contains essential vitamins, such as vitamins A, D, K, E, and B12, which make it a superior and nutrient dense skin food.
why does it work?
-
Skin is the largest organ in our body. Because it porous, it is important to think about what we put on it. Many skincare products contain harmful ingredients like petroleum, synthetic fragrances, and words we can’t pronounce. And because it’s the largest organ in the body, our skin can be a great indicator of imbalance. These imbalances include acne, discoloration, dryness, itching and various other forms of inflammation. When we begin to care for our skin, we are caring for our whole body.
-
Tallow closely resembles our own skin’s sebum (the layer that is protective and ideally rich in lipids) Due to it’s biocompatibility, tallow is readily absorbed deep into the layers of our skin without clogging pores, unlike most petroleum based products. This makes it an ideal moisturizer, as a little bit goes a long way.
why buy family owned?
-
Many “health” brands these days have been bought out and sold for a profit. Burt’s Bees, for example, started small as a beekeeper selling honey and various beeswax products. They built trust through their amazing products and natural approach towards the cosmetic industry. In 2007, they sold their business to Clorox. Being a major corporation, they were cutting corners in the production and began adding PFA’s or forever chemicals. Anyone using Burt’s Bees at the time can attest to a change in the quality. Knowing who is making your products matters. Finn & Loo is here for you!
